In this chaotic time, how would you like a little lift? Make Your Life a Beautiful Story: Life Lessons I Learned from My Mother by Beth Robins arrived just when I needed it most. This deeply personal, healing story may be just what you need, too.
A Personal Life Story
I met the author, Beth Robins, through my greatest passion – participating in the 3-Day, 60-Mile Walk for the Cure. Beth joined our team in 2010, the year of the Monsoon.
Walking the first 20 miles of a 60-mile walk in a torrential downpour is challenging. But it wasn’t until later I learned about the very personal challenge Beth carried at the time.
In 2010, Beth was a personal trainer. We bragged about being the only 3-Day team with our own personal trainer. To say Beth was fit is the biggest DUH statement anyone could make. The fact that anyone would come back after the Monsoon year speaks volumes on who Beth is.
In Make Your Life a Beautiful Story, Beth shares a raw and authentic peek into life events that could be crushing. By now I had heard a piece of Beth’s story, but this book revealed her incredible inner strength through a painful glimpse at reality.
Beth’s story resonated with me. It gave me hope and reminded me of the inner strength we all have, waiting to be tapped into. What made Beth’s journey even more meaningful was understanding the powerful influence of others who care. Starting with Beth’s mom.
Positive Life Lessons
I started 2025 with my Pollyanna goals, and the #1 on my list is Be positive. I like to think I am a positive person, but life has a way of testing us all. Like ghostly fingers emerging from a grave, negativity wraps around our souls trying to bury us beneath the harsher soil of life.
Negativity can be suffocating; it is not easy to grab on to something positive. I have to dig deep to find that positive side. My lone wolf persona can mask the incredible power of reaching out. For me, I am fortunate that my positivity has deep roots.
Like me, Beth is blessed with a positive role model, her mother. By latching on to the positive lessons she learned from her mom, Beth began to rediscover her true self. She found her inner strength was even more powerful than the strong body she had devoted her life to perfecting.
Make Your Life a Beautiful Story taps into the energy of our youth, like the gift of imagination that Beth described as one of her mom’s super powers. Think about that.
- Do you remember when your imagination was endless?
- You never questioned its believability.
- Imagination steamrolled over doubt.

In addition to her mother as an anchoring survival tool, Beth met someone who would become that special friend who walks into your life when you need them most. And they stay there through all the highs and lows. What a blessing to have such a friend.
As you get older, you realize how exceptional and cherished such a friend is. For some of us, that friend is one you’ve known all your life. For others, they magically appear when all seems lost. Beth’s “special friend” was a lifesaver thrown from the deck of destiny. We simply need to open our eyes and recognize the value they bring to our lives.
Lessons Learned from a Beautiful Life
Beth’s book inspired me to embrace my life and focus on the positive, caring, and kind aspects even in the worst of times. No, especially in the worst of times.
Embrace gratitude – do not cloud your blessings in the smoke of life’s stumbles. Stumbles lead us to life’s greatest treasures.
Breathe, just breathe – what is more life-affirming than the simple act of breathing? Center yourself and breathe in life.
Believe in your strength – nothing is more powerful. And when you need help, reach out to those who care or remember the lessons from those who meant so much.
This beautiful, quick read was like a warm hug saying it’s going to be okay. You are going to be okay. Focus on your blessings and strength and you can do anything.
I recommend Beth’s book to anyone searching for the positive side of life and the untapped power each of us has inside to enjoy a better life.
