People in Hell Want Ice Water

I write often about my Dad’s southernisms.

There wasn’t a situation where Dad couldn’t apply one of his clever sayings. Like most things you’re raised with, the southernisms began leaking into the rest of my life.

One of my favorites of my Dad’s expressions ~

People in hell want ice water – that doesn’t mean they’ll get it.

It got to the point during my management days in Corporate America that my staff would finish that particular southernism before I could say it.

And the Nominees Are

In About Writing Squared – Home of the 5 Buck Forum, I shared an email that had me muttering about people in hell.

  • The sender said she found my business writing site on Google (good to know)
  • She wondered what advertising options I had (if she actually visited my site, she’d see there is no advertising)
  • She let me know she preferred a text link on my homepage that linked to her site

All together now ~

People in hell want ice water – that doesn’t mean they’ll get it.

That incident had me thinking of other nominees for the People in hell… award.

Here are a few of the nominees.

  • Guest posts – where the blogger wants you to come up with the topic for a business that has nothing to do with yours – and don’t forget the links back to that business
  • Consultations – where the person wants you to advise what he or she should do on a project you are not getting paid for
  • Facebook – where people want you to play yet another game of the many that you hate on Facebook
  • Email chains – where the sender wants you to forward another email to 15 of your friends or suffer the wrath of God
  • Scammers – where the callers want you to share your credit card information over the phone to someone you do not know to help your child that you do not have
  • Spammers – where those leaving comments want you to post them with their links to another stupid, link-bait site

Those are just a few of the nominees who want something from you, where you would like to reply ~

People in hell want ice water – that doesn’t mean they’ll get it.

Who’s on your list?

Since you & I always think so much alike, no, it doesn’t surprise me, Sharon. Great minds and all… 😀

Cathy, I grew up on southernisms too… one of my faves was ‘six in one hand, half a dozen in the other.’ Isn’t it easier to just say, ‘pretty much the same’?

That and ‘you can wish in one hand and poop (or some similar word) in the other and see which one fills up first.’

LOL, Greg. 😀 Funny thing about your 1st one. My Mom for the life of her can’t get that right – she says something along the lines of Six of one, twenty-three of another, Say what?? 🙂

I had not heard your 2nd (edited or otherwise). Thanks for sharing those, Greg.

I think you have covered all the people in blogging hell. I could come up with some good examples from my work…but I probably shouldn’t 🙂
