Rockin’ October Breast Cancer Awareness Month

by | Oct 1, 2012 | 3-Day 60-Mile Walk | 10 comments

As many of you know, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I’m starting it off in style as my contributors came through once again to help me raise the minimum required to walk.

I’m ready for my 9th 3-Day Walk for the Cure in San Diego next month.

  • And I’ve already signed up for 2013
  • After all, it will be the 10th anniversary of our Fight Like A Girl team

Why We Walk

Each year I wear the names of survivors and loved ones who lost their battle to cancer.

  • Some are family
  • Many are names from contributors
  • All are remembered

This is the list I have so far. If you would like a name added to the list, leave their name(s) in Comments.

I will be honored to wear their names on my Walk.

How sweet to see my mom and sister’s names on your list, Cathy! I wish I had the spare $ to donate, but I have a few unpaid invoices out there right now, so the spending reins are extra tight. (Some aspects of freelancing are not so much fun – like chasing past-due payments.)

I’m celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month my own way by hosting a month-long Pink Sock Monkey craft-along. People can work at their own pace – some might knock a monkey out in an afternoon (that didn’t sound quite right, did it), others might want to work one step at a time. Next to no skill required.

Don’t even worry about it, Paula. Your good thoughts for a blister-free walk is all I need. 🙂

And I certainly hope people aren’t knocking out pink monkeys. 😀

    Hi Cathy,

Thank you again for doing the walk and giving me a way to help without having to risk the blisters. 🙂

It brought tears to my eyes to see my Dad, Jim’s name on your list. Thank you!

Please also remember my Grandma Myres and Aunt Deanna who lost their battles with breast cancer. My Mom is a 13+ year survivor of breast cancer. This cause is close to my family’s heart and will be praying for you and your team as you walk the good walk.

    Luv ya,
    Tammy

Hi Tammy. I am going to add your Grandma and Aunt (I swore I remembered your Grandma Myres-boomer brain here) and I’ll add your Mom to the “Honor” list. Good for her!

And we will glady accept all prayers. Thank you, my friend.

Thanks so much Cathy for including my Mom’s name on the list…I’m sure wherever she will be – she is bound to bless you for all that you do each year to create awareness among so many people, which is commendable indeed.

I wish more of us were like you, who DO things and take action and not just talk about it. 🙂

Thanks once again – much appreciated. 🙂

It’a my honor, Leena. Just think dry weather and happy feet thoughts for me (and all the walkers). 🙂

      Thanks, Leena.
