3-Day Book Close to the Finish Line

by | Aug 18, 2025 | 3-Day 60-Mile Walk | 0 comments

Recently, I saw a video of a baby crawling contest that took place at a WNBA halftime show. You’ve probably seen these contests before.

  • Moms put their baby down on the opposite end of the court from them.
  • Then each mom cajoles, pleads, and begs their baby to crawl to them.
  • The baby that crosses the finish line first wins.

What was different about this contest was one baby stood up at half court and took her first baby steps – in front of an excited mom and the basketball fans. And she crossed the finish line first! Not sure there are any rules about walking instead of crawling. 🙂

3-Day Book

My baby steps to publishing my book about my 3-Day experience has the finish line in sight. I completed my draft, editing, and three writing buddies provided invaluable feedback. I am doing a happy dance to get this close.

It took me years to understand what it was about this event that brings me back year after year, walking past the two-decade mark. But I never sat down to analyze and put into words what impact the 3-Day, 60-Mile event has had on my life. Sure, I blog about it every year, but this was more in-depth.

I really enjoyed the process (well, mostly – like any writer, there were times I struggled to express myself). I will be testing different titles for the book. I think I will definitely change it from the working title. If you would like to share your opinion on the titles, let me know.

2025 3-Day Events Kicked Off

I have been nose deep into my book so you may be wondering what’s going on in the 3-Day World (what we call the Pink Bubble).

The 2025 3-Day events kicked off in Denver the weekend of August 1-3. The event had over 610 walkers and crew over the three days and they raised $1.3 Million to be used for research, community health, patient care, and advocacy.

The New England 3-Day Walk took place in Boston this past weekend, August 15-17. They had over 930 walkers and crew and raised $2.4 Million. Let’s see if we can keep the numbers going up as we have two events left for 2025.

MyPhenomenal Supporters

I could never keep doing this for over two decades if I did not have the incredible support from family, friends, and generous contributors. The fundraising this year has been mind-blowing and I thank each and every one of you who keep this Old Lady Walking.

Check out what I’ve raised for 2025 – $4,005.45! Wowser – awesome. All thanks to you, my generous contributors. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Planning Ahead

Those of you who have followed me on this two-plus decade know I typically sign up for the next year’s Walk before even completing the current one. This year is no different.

I signed up for the 2026 San Diego 3-Day Walk and already have my first contributions! I figure at this point, if I didn’t sign up when the next year’s events opened up, I would be jinxing myself.

Update: I did it! In October of 2025, I released Perfectly Imperfect: How Walking 60 Miles in 3 Days Shed Plenty of Biases.

Memoir Debut

My debut memoir shares my two-plus decades of walking the 60-Mile, 3-Day Walk for the Cure.

I learned a lot about myself, the built-in biases that weigh us down, and I heard remarkable stories of survival, loss, and hope.
