3 Life Lessons Compliments of Mother Nature

First day of March, 2012

Mark Twain said there are only two certainties in life – death and taxes.

I think there’s one more.

There’s no such thing as an accurate weather forecast.

The above picture is a shot of the view outside my office window – the day it was supposed to be sunny and 50 degrees.

  • Despite all our technological advances
  • And more gizmos then you can shake a stick at
  • Weathermen still get it wrong

Mother Nature gets it right every time. Just think about the life lessons she’s delivered.

Life Lesson #1 – Experts are not always right.

We define experts in many ways.

  • A person with education degrees galore
  • A person whose monetary worth is a number with a gazillion zeroes after it
  • A blogger with a million followers

Huh.

  • Experts are not right all the time
  • They could be the weathermen of their world

Imagine if Noah and the animals listened to all those people asking –

What rain?

Follow your instincts and build the dang ark.

Life Lesson #2 – It takes a lot of snowflakes to build a snowman.

If snowflakes are our experiences in life, most of us have accumulated plenty to build our snowman.

And since no two snowflakes are alike, your snowman is different from mine – even if they look similar.

  • Embrace your snowflakes
  • Tomorrow may bring the sun

Gather your unique experiences and build a better life.

Life Lesson #3 – You can’t have rainbows without rain.

That is a well-known saying in Hawaii. I have vacationed in Maui for almost 20 years and love the culture.

  • No matter what Mother Nature or life throws at you – there are always rainbow
  • Rainbows are a marriage of the sun and rain that deliver hope

Your storms make you stronger and bring color to your life.

Okay – metaphors and philosophizing over (all that from a simple snowstorm).

Thanks so much for this, Cathy. It’s not always easy to keep it in mind that we need a diversity of life experiences to have a great life. Growing takes time – and a lot of experience. By the way, I rarely follow the advice of the weather man. I trust my gut! 😉

Hi Christi: LOL 🙂 Good idea to go with your gut over the weatherman.

I like Growing takes time-so true-and some of us require more time than others. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Christi.

Love the lessons you share here, Cathy. (And I love rainbows, so any post that mentions them is ok with me!)

Hi Sharon: Rainbows are a favorite of mine, too. Another quick story.

As you know, I have participated in the 3-Day Walk for the Cure for 8 years. At least three different years, we have walked into the campsite and there was a giant rainbow back dropping the pink tents. Goosebump moment – Awesome!

Great post! So very true with these items. I always tend to become boggled when people are referred to as experts, as just like you mentioned, they are not always correct. Good words to live by! 🙂

Oh darn! Just darn… suddenly longing to go back to sea and it’s all your fault Cathy… 😉 Love it and love the reminder about Pachamama (Mother Earth) in all her glory.

    Hi Cathy!

Nice post. You made me smile and you made me think! I liked:

Life Lesson #3 – You can’t have rainbows without rain.

I’ve heard that said so many different ways I thought I heard them all. My favorite expression is God doesn’t close one door without opening another. I have found that to be so true.

Some of my best achievements were accomplished after I had a lot trouble…. but when the dust settled, there I was better off than before it all started 🙂

Beautiful Cathy! I’m from Hawaii and appreciate the tribute to Iz. And I agree. I think in the end we know what’s best. Everything else is just sugar coating and chocolate sprinkles. Nice, but not necessary.
