There are many theories on why we dream.
- Freud thought dreams show how crazy we really are (okay, I may be paraphrasing a tad)
- Others believe dreams are predictions (without the crystal ball)
- Some think dreams solve our life’s problems (but, only if you can decode them)
I have never been one who is real adept at remembering my dreams.
No, that is not a recent, baby boomer brain event.
The few I do remember usually occur right before I wake up in the morning. My most recent one is a doozy.
Funny as all get out – and maybe just a bit crazy.
You decide.
One Scoop or Two?
In my dream, I was in an ice cream shop, ordering an ice cream cone.
I already knew the dream was weird because I am not a big sweet-eater. Don’t worry – I have other afflictions – like a love affair with the whole bread family.
But, I digress.
I placed my order and the man behind the counter asked to see my I.D.
But, it’s just ice cream!
With a manner reminiscent of a motorcycle cop with no sense of humor (not that I would know anything about that), the man repeated his demand for a show of I.D.
Grumbling with the absurdity of the request, I hand over my I.D.
Ice Cream Man: This says Cathy Miller
Me: Yes, that’s me (I try my most charming smile)
Ice Cream Man (unsmiling): Is that your full name?
Me: Cathy is my first name. Miller is my last name (rolling my eyes in juvenile disdain)
Ice Cream Man: Cathy isn’t a nickname?
Me: Yes, it’s a nickname. It’s short for Catherine, but only my mother calls me that – and only when I’m in trouble, hence, my overly sensitive response to being called Catherine!
I now understand how the term soda jerk came into play.
Ice Cream Man: I need to have an I.D. with your full name – first, middle, and last. Like the I.R.S. requires.
Me: Did you work for the TSA? (Transportation Security Administration-the one with naked x-ray fame)
Ice Cream Man is not smiling.
But, it’s just ice cream!
Ice Cream Man: I can’t give you your ice cream without a valid I.D.
I then proceed to pitch a fit. I mean, who wouldn’t? To which, Ice Cream Man smiles and replies –
But, it’s just ice cream!
Dream Over
Okay, all you amateur dream analysts, now’s your chance.
- Is it crazy?
- Is it a prediction of things to come?
- Or do I need to get a life?
You decide.

Wow Cathy… your dream takes the cake (and ice cream too) on the bizarre meter! My dreams are usually very boring, mostly about being late for work.
I’m impressed with your recall down to the last detail. I have a hard time remembering mine.
The lesson I would take away from your dream? Eat dessert first!! :)-
Too funny, Kim. 🙂 That was another thing that was so weird-it was so vivid. IF I remember them at all, it’s not usually so vivid.
Since I really don’t like sweets, I can’t imagine what my dreams would be like if I ate dessert first. 😀
Thanks for stopping by, Kim. Sweet dreams. 🙂
It’s simple, Cathy. It’s a Men in Black thing. The guy just wants to make sure you’re not really an alien creature that plans to use the ice cream for some nefarious reasons. For some reason, the dream makes me think of that movie, I don’t really know why.
Okay, I’ve had plenty of weird dreams, myself. If they do reflect on how crazy you are, then I must be some kind of lunatic.
Finally – an explanation! LOL!! Thanks so much for sharing your expertise, Wendy-from one crazy person to another. 😀
