Book Review: Marketing 365

I confess – Lori Widmer is an online writing buddy.

That is the extent of my affiliation to Lori’s new e-book, Marketing 365: Daily Strategies for Entrepreneurs and Small Business.

Well that, and the fact that I bought it as soon as it hit the virtual bookstore.

  • Lori is a freelance writer who offers business writing and editing services
  • Lori also hosts a blog, Words on the Page, for freelance writers
  • At the blog, she shares her 15+years of experience

It’s there that I first observed the quality of what Lori has to share.

In the tradition of Simply stated business, this book review is based on our mantra –

Keep it simple ~ Keep it clear ~ Keep it uniquely yours

Keep it Simple

Don’t lose your message in the delivery.

The e-book’s message is a simple one – the key to marketing is consistency and connecting with customers.

Incorporating even one idea and using it consistently produces results.

The book takes that simple message and gives readers a boost.

  • A marketing idea-a-day for 365 days
  • With a bonus #366 – perfect for leap year

Delivering 365 ideas could be a nighttime delight – a real snoozer.

There are three elements that work for this e-book.

  1. A simple layout
  2. Simple headings of three to five words
  3. Short sentences and pragraphs

It allows readers to do a quick scan.

  • This e-book is not meant to be read in one sitting
  • If I tried that, my body would look like a question mark

In fact, Lori tells you from the start – you will not use this entire book.

The intent is for readers to discover the ideas that resonate with them and then embrace them as their own.

Many of the ideas in the book focus on connecting with clients, prospects or business owners by showing the benefit of doing business with you.

Sales 101 preaches –

Stress benefits – not features.

The word benefit appeared 24 times in the book.

Believe in your business – it shows.

Most of the ideas in Marketing 365 are not new. Some readers may dismiss the e-book for that reason.

If readers are looking for a magic bullet, they will be disappointed.

That’s not what this e-book is about.

What makes Marketing 365 unique is the approach.

  • It breaks down the fear of marketing
  • It does that with simple ideas
  • It offers a resource when marketing stalls

Many small business owners hate marketing. We build it up in our minds until we become paralyzed.

This e-book shows marketing is not “rocket science” and encourages readers to start small with one idea.

I like to think of it as my conscience. I know I need to do more marketing

    Thank you for the review, Cathy! I think you’re correct – the ideas aren’t necessarily new. They’re simplified and presented so that people will actually try them instead of thinking “I’ll try that someday.”

    Hi Lori: I don’t think they necessarily have to be new either. And I like that you don’t profess it to be new. We all bring our own spin to ideas and what I love about this is that you show it is not hard, we simply have to do it. Like I said, I appreciate that kick in the rear and you know how I ♥ simple-which your book has in spades. 🙂
